World After (Penryn & the End of Days #2) by Susan Ee

“It's a new day in the World After.”

Synopsis: In this sequel to the bestselling fantasy thriller, Angelfall, the survivors of the angel apocalypse begin to scrape back together what's left of the modern world. When a group of people capture Penryn's sister Paige, thinking she's a monster, the situation ends in a massacre. Paige disappears. Humans are terrified. Mom is heartbroken. Penryn drives through the streets of San Francisco looking for Paige. Why are the streets so empty? Where is everybody? Her search leads her into the heart of the angels' secret plans where she catches a glimpse of their motivations, and learns the horrifying extent to which the angels are willing to go. Meanwhile, Raffe hunts for his wings. Without them, he can't rejoin the angels, can't take his rightful place as one of their leaders. When faced with recapturing his wings or helping Penryn survive, which will he choose?

If you haven’t read the first book “Angelfall”, I would recommend you to read it first because this might have some things relating back to it. “World After” was really good. I really loved how Susan Ee continued where she left off from the first book. She continued with making Penryn being paralyzed but putting her thoughts into words. It was so good to continue the next book right after because the story flowed with no flaws.

“It’s amazing how many times we need to go against our survival instincts to survive.”

In “Angelfall” we could see that Penryn was brave and she wanted to save her sister and do her best. In this book, we could see that she thinks that she has failed to save her sister and at the same time she is terrified of the monster her sister has become.

“He glares at me as if he already hates it. “What is it?” I consider lying but what’s the point? I clear my throat. “Pooky Bear"He’s silent for so long I’m beginning to think he didn’t hear me when he finally says, “Pooky. Bear.” “It was just a little joke. I didn’t know.” “I’ve mentioned that names have power, right? Do you realize that when she fights battles, she’s going to have to announce herself to the opposing sword? She’ll be forced to say something ridiculous like, ‘I am Pooky Bear, from an ancient line of archangel swords.’ Or, ‘Bow down to me, Pooky Bear, who has only two other equals in all the worlds.’ He shakes his head. “How is she going to get any respect?”

As for Raffe, there is so little of him compared to in “Angelfall”. The lead character was Penryn and her fights with the dark world the Angel apocalypse has left behind. The ending of the book wasn’t really a cliff-hanger but it still makes you wait for the next part.

“I look up to say something but he puts his finger to my lips and whispers, “Don’t talk. You’ll just spoil my fantasy of rescuing an innocent damsel in distress as soon as you open your mouth.”

The ratings for this book is 5/5 stars. It was totally filled with actions and was fast paced. We could see character developments and there were good twists that I enjoyed. It also made me wonder how Raffe and Penryn will ever find a happy ending in their jumbled world.

  1. Hi there,

I am a new author and have just finished writing my first children’s adventure story- Guardian of the Underworld .

It is about an eleven year old boy, Jake Summers, who finds himself on an adventure in a long-forgotten magical world where together with his class-mate Arianna and a strange creature called Noggin, he has to race against time through five deadly challenges to fulfil an ancient magical prophecy and save the world.
It is along the lines of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and like that story, I have attempted to weave good strong family values and the importance of forgiveness. It would appeal most to those who enjoy the likes of Fablehaven, Harry Potter and Percy Jackson.

It is the first in an intended series, although I’m not sure at this point, how many there will be.

If you like the sound of my book, and think you may be interested in reading it, please let me know and in the mean time, you can find it on Goodreads, the synopsis is below this message. It is currently available in PDF and ebook format.

I look forward to hearing from you,

    Kind regards
